Introduction to AAUP
The American Association of
University Professors aims to ensure the highest quality education
for all students by protecting academic freedom and supporting the
principle of tenure for university faculties. Since its foundation in 1915, the AAUP has
successfully established recognized policies in the defense of
faculty rights including securing tenure, faculty participation in
university governance, racial discrimination, sexual harassment and
professional ethics. Currently, the AAUP is functioning to serve its
44,000 members in more than 2000 institutions, including our
university: The University of Southern Mississippi. All university
faculty members are encouraged to join the AAUP so that they have a
better understanding of their rights and better chances to improve
their professional qualities. |
